Singapore Beach Tennis Club

Interview with Rhea

If you’ve ever strolled by a sandy court and noticed the energy — quick rallies, powerful smashes, and plenty of smiles — chances are you’ve witnessed a beach tennis match. We sat down with Rhea, an enthusiastic player who’s embraced the sport, to learn about their experience and what keeps them coming back for more.

1. How did you first get into beach tennis, and when was it?

It started pretty randomly. I was at the office when a friend invited me to join a game. I figured, why not? After just one match, I was hooked—the sand, the laughter, the energy… it pulled me right in.

2. What do you enjoy most about playing beach tennis?

It’s the whole experience. I love the game, but also the friendships, the BBQ nights after matches, and the picnic-style beach days. Every time feels like a little summer festival.

3. What’s the toughest part of the game for you?

Definitely chasing down those high balls. Being on the shorter side, I’m constantly sprinting back and then diving forward. It feels like acrobatics sometimes—but it’s part of the fun.

4. Do you have any pre-game rituals?

Always iced water and an energy drink—that’s my fuel. Sunscreen? Honestly, I’m hit or miss on that one. But staying hydrated is a must.

5. How has beach tennis changed your routine?

It replaced boring workouts I never enjoyed. I’m not a gym person, but beach tennis keeps me active while also being social. Now weekends aren’t just about exercise—they’re something I really look forward to.

6. Got a favorite move?

I love the running saves from the back. Every time I manage to pull one off, it feels like a little victory. And diving for the ball? That’s my superhero moment!

7. Any advice for first-timers?

Don’t stress about being perfect—just grab a racket and play. You’ll learn quickly, and the fun is in the experience. Keep showing up, and before you know it, you’ll be hooked too.

8. How often do you usually play beach tennis in a week?

I usually play one whole day on Saturday and have two night games during the week—unless I’m really sick and can’t move. It’s my favorite way to stay active!

9. Do you play for fun, fitness, or competition?

Honestly, all three. It keeps me fit, I love the social side, and I do enjoy the competitive spark.

10. If you had to explain beach tennis in one sentence…?

It’s exhausting, exhilarating, and always full of good vibes.
