Interview with Lenka
We sat down with Lenka to chat about her beach tennis journey. From discovering the sport in Slovakia to becoming a regular with the Singapore community, here's what keeps her coming back every weekend.

1. How did you first get into beach tennis, and when was it?
I first discovered beach tennis about six years ago in my home country, Slovakia, when I saw people training next to a beach volleyball court. I tried it one summer and really enjoyed it, but since our summers are short, I didn’t continue at the time. Then, in October last year, I found an amazing group here in Singapore and have been playing with them more or less regularly every weekend since.
2. How often do you usually play beach tennis?
Six times per month. I try to make it to every weekend session with the group.
3. Did you come from another sport before beach tennis?
I’ve always enjoyed sports. When I was younger, I played tennis and badminton.
4. What’s your favorite part of the game?
The people and outdoor setting.
5. What’s the toughest part of the game for you right now?
I need to improve my technique. Especially with footwork. There's still so much to learn.
6. Got a favorite move or shot?(e.g. smash, drop shot, block, serve)
Not really. I focus more on playing smart and consistent rather than going for flashy shots.
7. If you could improve one thing about your game, what would it be?
The toughest part for me right now is running backwards and trying to return balls at the end of the court.
8. Do you play beach tennis mainly for fun, fitness, or competition?
Fun, definitely. The fitness benefits are there, but what really drives me is enjoying the game and the people I play with.
9. How has beach tennis changed your routine or lifestyle?
It’s become something I really look forward to during the week—I’m always excited about the weekends when I get to play and meet the group.
10. Any advice you’d give to someone trying beach tennis for the first time?
Just try it and enjoy.
11. If you had to explain beach tennis in one sentence, what would you say?
A fun, more social and lighter version of tennis played on the beach.
Lenka's approach is refreshingly straightforward: try it, enjoy it, and keep showing up. If there's one takeaway from her story, it's that beach tennis has a way of becoming a weekend highlight you won't want to miss.
